Early Learning Center Mailbox

Another wonderful drawing from the Early Learning Center mailbox.

Tell your child a story about this picture and you will help her to develop her narrative skills. Or have her draw one of her own and tell YOU a story.

Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival

Cherry Blossom Festivals are held all over Japan in spring every year.
Hanami is the Japanese word for cherry blossom viewing parties. At hanami parties, people have fun, drinking, eating, and singing during the day or night. It is like a picnic under the trees. Usually, people bring food, do BBQ, or buy food from vendors for hanami parties.

People of all ages are warmly invited to attend a Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival right here at the Main Library, May 31st from 12:00 - 6:00 PM.
There will be Japanese food, traditional dance, a bonsai exhibit and a karaoke competition among other activities.

A Good Thing About Construction!

If you know a child who loves everything construction, the library is the place to be!

In the Children's Department of the library, we have great fiction and non-fiction books about construction vehicles and our librarians will be happy to show you where they are shelved.

But the best thing is our very large windows that let your child view the real life construction going on right outside!

Believe it or not, the construction is a limited time engagement - so get here before they are gone!

Pre-Vacation Reads

Whether you're planning an out-of-town vacation this summer, or just going to stick around the good 'ol state of Indiana, here's a suggestion -- read up on the places you're going to visit before you go!

Here at the Library, we have non-fiction books about the states, biographies of famous people, and lots of picture book and chapter book stories set in real places. Before you take your trip, check out some of these books and familiarize yourself with the area and the people!

Here are some suggestions if you're planning a "stay-cation" here in Indiana:

H is for Hoosier: An Indiana Alphabet
by Cynthia Furlong Reynolds

The Best of Fort Wayne, Volumes 1 and 2
by George Mather

The Teacher's Funeral: A Comedy in Three Parts
by Richard Peck

If you're going out of town, ask us for some pre-vacation suggestions -- we love to help!

Hurrah! It's Easier to Get to the Library

Wayne Street, which had been closed near the library for several weeks during city sewer work, has been reopened! This will make it a lot easier getting to the library.

Ewing Street is still closed -- currently north of Jefferson, to Wayne Street.
