First Visit to the Reading Tower!

Alex just turned seven! That meant he was (finally!!) old enough to go up to the Reading Tower while his mom and little brother & sister played and learned together in the Early Learning Center.

Alex brought a copy of Monkey and Dog Days by Kate Banks to read.

Happy Birthday, Alex!

Happy Birthday Michael!

Michael has been waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting to turn 7 years old. Why was he so anxious to be seven? Because he wanted to read in the Reading Tower, of course!

Happy Birthday Michael, we hope that you enjoy hanging out in the Reading Tower for the next 5 years :)

Seven Years Old!

Hannah just turned 7-years-old and was able to make her first trip up the stairs of the Children's Services Reading Tower. Children ages 7 through 12 are invited to climb the stairs and find a comfy reading bubble to curl up into for some quiet reading time. Those of us who are younger than 7 or older than 12 must watch and wait from the ground floor. Congratulations, Hannah, and Happy Birthday!

Reading Tower Time!

Isaac finally, finally, finally turned 7 this month! He has been anxiously waiting to go up in the reading tower since it arrived last April. Congratulations Isaac!
His sister Sierra still has three more years to wait, but she enjoys reading in the red bubbles downstairs.

Kids love the Reading Tower

The Reading Tower is a popular reading spot for children 7 to 12 years old.

Count the shoes -- and divide by two -- to see how many kids were reading in the Tower.

We love visits from elementary school classes!

Yesterday we enjoyed a visit from Miss Quick's 4th grade class at Central Christian. The kids enjoyed exploring, researching, reading, and using the new self-check machine at the Library. We hope they'll come back soon!

If you want to schedule a class visit to the Library, just give us a call at 260-421-1220. Now is the time to schedule your end of school-year visit!

In June 2007 we released our painted lady butterflies out on the Library Plaza.

In July 2007, Pinkerton stopped by for a visit.

In August 2007, kids watched a rocket launch out on the Library Plaza as part of the 3, 2, 1, Blast Off! program.

In October 2007 the Art Out of the Box participants painted an art car on the Library Plaza.

Kids love the Reading Tower

One of the most loved structures in our Children's Services department is our Reading Tower. Big kids between the ages of 7 and 12 use this two story structure to read, relax, and (sometimes) do homework.

As Mitch demonstrates, a wide variety of reading styles are used in the Reading Tower.
