A Treasure for Fans of Strega Nona

Tomie dePaola has published a NEW Strega Nona book -- and this may be the best, yet (that's my personal opinion, of course!) Working with Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart of pop-up book fame, he has given us

Brava Strega Nona! A Heartwarming Pop-Up Book

And heartwarming it is, indeed! Those familiar with the Strega Nona stories will recognize some famous scenes...but everyone can appreciate the stunning artwork and, just maybe, will come to love Strega Nona as much as I do.

For more poppin'-up fun, take a peek at our Pop-Up Books Booklist.

In a Dark, Dark Wood

Click here to find this book in the Library Catalog! In a Dark, Dark Wood by David A. Carter is the perfect "scary" story for preschoolers. This wonderfully creepy and amazingly simple book pulls the reader in until the scary surprise at the end literally jumps off of the page!

After just a few readings, you and your preschooler will have the story memorized and can tell the story together. This is a great way for your preschooler to practice his/her narrative skills, an important part of early literacy.

For more scary books for kids of all ages, check out our Scary Stories Booklist. Or if you like books that jump out at you, check out our list of Pop-Up Books.

Pop-Up Books!

We have just posted a new Pop-Up Books booklist on our website -- if you love pop-up books (and I know you do!) you've got to check it out. All of the books on this list can be checked out for three weeks with your ACPL Library Card!
Click here to find this book in the Library Catalog!
One of my favorite pop-up books is How to Find Flower Fairies, by Cicely Mary Barker. Readers can search through the amazingly detailed pop-up illustrations to hunt for fairies; fascinating and realistic "facts" about fairies are scattered throughout the book.

And, for more pop-up reading pleasure...at the Main Library, in Children's Services, we have several copies of pop-up books that stay in the library, so they're available to look at while you visit. Ask us about it, we'll be glad to show you!
