Donuts!
I love, love, love donuts & I love, love, LOVE Bob Staake's illustrations of donuts. The Donut Chef is the story of two chefs creatively battling for the biggest donut sales in town. Read this book to see (possibly for the first time ever) a calamari shaped donut! The illustrations are so wonderfully fun that I recommended that this title be added to the ACPL Mock Caldecott blog for further discussion. If you know of a book with great illustrations that was published this year, feel free to send an email about it to the Mock Caldecott blog coordinator.
