What's inside?

As you walk through the Children's Department of the downtown library, do you ever wonder what is inside the big blue bags? Or what is inside the small blue and yellow bags? Or what is inside the boxes in the PTC section?
Well, if you have ever wondered about any of these things, the display in our glass case is for you!
We have displayed the "insides" of these items.
The big blue bags are our Kits for Kids. The Kits for Kids encompass an enormous array of subjects. They hold eight picture books, one DVD or CD and usually a book from our PTC collection.
The smaller blue and yellow bags are our Parent and Child Sets. Each bag focuses on one letter from the alphabet or one number. Inside the Parent and Child Sets are applicable books to help your child learn their letters and manipulatives that might be a lacing letter or a letter stamp. There are also activity sheets to provide ideas to further your child's letter and number knowledge.
The Character Education boxes are from our Parent Teacher Collection. Each box contains a DVD, a picture book, an activity book, an evaluation book and a home ties book. These boxes are great and fun ways to teach character.

Happy Anniversary Kits for Kids!

Did you know that your Library has been creating Kits for Kids for 10 years now! We have a wide range of topics available. From Adoption to the Zoo, you will be able to find a topic that interests you. Each kit contains approximately 8 books on a topic, one parent-teacher item and a media item. Last year, we started creating Book Group Kits - which include 15 paperback copies of a title, parent-teacher information, a movie and more! Click here for an entire list of Kits for Kids.

Kits for Kids

As you've walked through Children's Services, have you noticed the big, blue bags? They are Kits for Kids. These conveniently packaged, thematically-based kits each contain 8 books for the child, 1 book for the parent or teacher, and 1 DVD/videotape/CD on the subject. Each Kit may be checked out for 3 weeks with your ACPL library card and may be renewed. A complete list of Kits for Kids can be found here. If you have a group of interested readers who want to explore Little House on the Prairie or Charlotte's Web or Bridge to Terabithia or Because of Winn-Dixie, we now have a Kit just for you.
