We have packed up our butterflies and shipped them to the Holocaust Museum Houston in order to be part of their loving tribute to the 1.5 million children who died in the Holocaust. We added 374 beautifully colored butterflies lovingly created by the children who visited our department in June. Visit the link provided to learn more about this awesome exhibit in the making!

For the past several weeks, the Children's Services department has invited our young patrons to participate in the Holocaust Museum Houston's Butterfly Project. We provided butterfly templates and markers and the children did the rest!
In an effort to remember the 1,500,000 children who perished in the Holocaust, the Holocaust Museum Houston is collecting 1.5 million handmade butterflies.
The butterflies will eventually comprise a breath-taking exhibition, currently scheduled for Spring 2013, for all to remember. The Museum has already collected an estimated 400,000 butterflies and we will be adding 374 more!
We are readying ours for shipment to the museum in Houston to be a part of this awesome exhibit.

The caterpillars are here!

We are so excited to present our annual butterfly program. This is a program that begins today with the arrival of our furry friends, the caterpillars and ends with the release of butterflies on June 28th. There are changes that happen everyday in the "butterfly bungalow" located in the Children's Services department and you won't want to miss a thing. The caterpillars are busy eating and preparing for their metamorphoses! We invite everyone to stop by and spend some time watching nature at it's best.

What an exciting month it has been, watching our caterpillars grow and change from
caterpillars
to
chrysalises
to
butterflies!
Next Tuesday evening, June 30, at 6:00 p.m., all are invited to attend our annual Butterfly Release. Not only will we have butterfly stories, but local naturalist and butterfly enthusiast Karie Divelbiss-Harding will be here to share some of her butterfly wisdom! During the program, we'll head outdoors to release our butterflies into their natural home. And, of course, we'll have plenty of books and other materials about caterpillars and butterflies for you to check out and learn more about these amazing insects!

Butterfly Release Storytime
This Monday, June 30, at 7:00 p.m., we will be celebrating the release of our fabulous Painted Lady butterflies into the evening sky with stories and songs. It's been fascinating to watch the transformation from caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly. You still have time to pop into Children's Services to view the butterflies before their release!
