National Library Week 2010 Bookmark Contest


The ACPL is now accepting entries for the 2010 National Library Week Bookmark Contest.

Design a bookmark with the theme "Communities Thrive @ your library" on our bookmark template and enter it by Saturday, February 27th.

Winning entries in each category will be made into ACPL bookmarks and distributed during National Library Week, April 11 to 17, 2010.

Since the new building at 900 Library Plaza opened in 2007 we have noticed a new local tradition...Fort Wayne families LOVE to show off their new library to out of town visitors during the weekend after Thanksgiving.

So if you are looking for something fun and warm to do this weekend, bring your friends and family in to meet us.

The Library is Closed Today


Today is Staff Development Day and the library is closed. The Main Library will reopen at 9am tomorrow and the branch libraries will reopen at 10am tomorrow. See you then!

Your Library is a STAR!


Library Journal identified 258 star libraries in the United States and the Allen County Public Library is one of them! ACPL was rated a 4 star library - hooray!

Memory Wall 2009

The memory wall in the Children's Services department was created during our Day of the Dead celebration to allow our patrons to remember a loved one who had passed away. While these memorial marigolds ranged from honoring parents to pets, they were all written with love and respect.

Food for the Fort

In these bad economic times, help us feed our hungry! Bring in items to donate to ACPL's Food for the Fort Food Drive. Non-perishable items will be accepted through Saturday, October 31st at all locations of the ACPL.

Food donations will be divided between Charis House and the Community Harvest Food Bank.

Adzooks Puppets!

Join us at the Main Library to enjoy the "Imagination of Puppetry" presented by the puppetry troupe Adzooks.
Each program will be followed by an opportunity for the kids to "meet" the puppets!

Where is the Mama Duck?

This mama duck built her nest on the grounds of the downtown library! She is camouflaged by mulch and is almost covered by daylily leaves. We have seen at least 3 eggs in her nest.

If you happen to spot her, please remember to watch her from a distance. She has important work to do!

Library is Closed Today

All branches of the ACPL are closed today, but don't let that stop you from learning and exploring! Check out these links:
  • Fun Links (from television to cool stuff, you are sure to find something you'll enjoy)
  • Homework Help (not just for homework, these links will help you discover how products are made, identify the tree in your backyard and learn more about that bug you just found)
  • Downloadable Audiobooks (download an audiobook to your computer, MP3 player or IPOD right now with your library card)
  • Inspire Databases (read magazines, newspapers, find science experiments and more)

ACPL at Freimann Family Night!


Be sure to visit the Children's Services table at Freimann Family Night tomorrow night (Thursday, June 4th, 2009) from 6pm-9pm.

Don't miss out as Freimann Square will be transformed into a fun filled flurry of activity that is sure to delight the child in all of us.

Local vendors will provide a variety of activities for the little ones along with live music, food from local restaurants and of course - the annual balloon launch!

Admission to this event is free.

Hurrah! It's Easier to Get to the Library

Wayne Street, which had been closed near the library for several weeks during city sewer work, has been reopened! This will make it a lot easier getting to the library.

Ewing Street is still closed -- currently north of Jefferson, to Wayne Street.

C-SPAN's Civics Bus is coming to the Library

The C-Span Civics Bus is coming to the Library!

Today from 1:30 to 3:30, the 45-foot mobile production studio and demonstration center will be at the downtown Library at 900 Library Plaza.

Hosted by Comcast, the bus will be open to the general public for tours and will share some of C-Span's educational and civic resources.

Sol-Fest 2009


Celebrate the sun by visiting Sol-Fest this Saturday and Sunday, May 2nd and 3rd, between 12:00p.m. and 8:00 p.m.



This event will be held at Fox Island County Park.

Stop by the Children's Services table between 12:00pm and 5:00pm to pick up a calendar of free activities at the downtown library and to
do a creative craft to take home!



$5 per person, kids 11 and under are FREE!

Birth to Baby Fair


Visit the Main Library this Saturday, May 2nd between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00p.m. for the third annual "Birth to Baby Fair"!

Birth to Baby is a FREE event featuring seminars, workshops and exhibitors that support the needs of growing families
in our community.

Happy Easter

Today is Easter Day & the ACPL is closed. The Main Library will re-open tomorrow at 9am and branch libraries will re-open tomorrow at 10am.





There have been a lot of fun Easter books published this year, such as Bob Boyle's Wubbzy's Egg-cellent Easter which is a lift-the-flap book! Remember, the Library receives new books almost every day, you are sure to find something that you will enjoy on our new book shelves.
